Recently, a new twist on the PPA model has emerged—the “virtual” power purchase agreement (VPPA). Unlike traditional PPAs that involve the physical delivery of electricity to the customer’s location, VPPAs are more like a financial transaction and consequently are not limited to customers located in deregulated states. 

During this webinar, we will discuss how VPPAs work, the cost management (hedge) value of VPPAs, the suitability of VPPAs for different customer types, and key considerations when evaluating a VPPA. Join this session to learn about the Energy Savings Plus Health: Indoor Air Quality Guidelines for School Building Upgrades (Visit: http://www.epa.gov/iaq/schools/energy_savings_plus_health.html). You can use the guide to optimize energy efficiency upgrades without compromising occupant health during the building retrofit process. The session will include a demonstration of the Energy Savings Plus Health Checklist Generator (XLS), a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that helps you create a custom verification checklist for both your building upgrades and concurrent IAQ assessment protocols for each step of the upgrade process. The session will include commentary from guest speaker Dave Berger, who successfully implemented energy efficiency measures while protecting and improving indoor air quality and occupant health at Des Moines School District, Iowa.

An Energy Treasure Hunt is a two to three day event that focuses on identifying low cost energy saving opportunities from behavioral, operational, and maintenance oriented actions.  Unlike traditional energy assessments or audits that typically rely on outside experts, an Energy Treasure Hunt engages employees to find the opportunities.  By using internal resources, the Energy Treasure Hunt process helps build energy teams and internal processes for managing energy with a focus on continuous improvement. Developed by Toyota and adopted by many EPA ENERGY STAR partner companies, the Energy Treasure Hunt process is a proven approach for finding savings.

				Achieving top-level performance in a multi-tenant office building has its challenges. Landlords must consider the many factors that contribute to a building’s energy efficiency, such as building design, base building systems, management, operation and maintenance, tenant build-out, and occupant behavior. An efficiently designed building may perform poorly if its systems are not well maintained, or if occupants do not use the systems as intended. Likewise, tenants who do all they can to reduce energy waste in their leased space may do little to improve the overall efficiency of a poorly designed or inadequately managed building. The best-performing buildings have one important element in common: tenants and landlords working together toward a unified goal of energy efficiency.

In this webinar, Al Scaramelli, Managing Director for Beacon Capital, and Sara Neff, Vice President of Sustainability for Kilroy Realty Corp, will share their strategies and experiences in engaging tenants to accomplish energy reduction goals.  The session will also feature ENERGY STAR resources designed to help strengthen the tenant landlord relationship, such as the ENERGY STAR report “Successes in Sustainability: Landlords and Tenants Team Up on Energy Efficiency.”

				New data for many types of commercial buildings will be available next year, when the Energy Information Administration (EIA) releases the results of its 2012 Commercial Building Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS).  EPA will provide an overview of how ENERGY STAR will use this data, the opportunities for input, and when you can expect to see updated ENERGY STAR scores based on the data. A representative from EIA will also present on the status of the 2012 CBECS data collection effort.
